Can toughened safety glass panes be used for fall-proof glazing?
Contrary to many statements to the contrary, fall-proof glazing with ESG-H is permissible. Since this type of glass is also specified in the documents of our glass holders approved by the building authorities, it can be used for cost-effective and legally secure glazing throughout Germany.

What is SPG | Mirror glass
Description: Float glass is flat glass which is produced in the float process. The process has been used industrially since the 1960s and currently supplies about 95% of all flat glass. According to DIN 1249 (flat glass in building) and DIN 1259 (glass), the term mirror glass stands for flat and transparent glass, but is now often used as a synonym for float glass. As a basis for flat glass in almost all areas, it is also referred to as basic glass. Preferred areas of application: Window glass, display cases, glass furniture and mirrors.

What is toughened safety glass (ESG)?
Description: Toughened safety glass (ESG) consists of a glass pane and offers increased resistance to temperature changes as well as high bending, impact and shock resistance. In the event of breakage, toughened safety glass shatters into small, partially interlocked fragments, thus reducing the risk of injury. ESG is visually indistinguishable from normal, non-tempered glass, but usually bears an etching stamp with the imprint “ESG” in one corner. In addition, tempered glass cannot be processed after it has been tempered. An attempt to cut or drill the pane would lead to its destruction. Preferred areas of application: Side and rear windows of vehicles, glass showers, glass furniture, all-glass interior doors, light cut-outs, spandrel glazing and glass walls.

What is ESG – H | Toughened safety glass with hot storage test
Description: In a small proportion of toughened safety glass panes, spontaneous breakage occurs, mainly in the first year after manufacture, due to corroding nickel suffide inclusions. By selectively promoting corrosion in a so-called heat soak test, the breakage of such panes occurs even before delivery. In this test, the tempered toughened safety glass must be heated to a defined temperature and kept at this temperature level for a certain period of time. DIN 18 516 Part 4 prescribes a holding time of eight hours at an average oven temperature of 290 ˙C (± 10 ˚C) here; Bauregelliste A, Part 1, 11.4.2 deviates somewhat from DIN and prescribes a holding time of four hours, among other things. Glass that has passed this test then bears the designation ESG-H. Preferred areas of application: Safety-relevant applications such as façade glass, structural glass elements (e.g. beams and columns).

What is TVG | Semi-tempered glass
Description: Partially toughened glass, TVG for short, is subjected to a thermal treatment like toughened safety glass.

What is TVG | Partially toughened glass

Description: Partially toughened glass, abbreviated to TVG, undergoes a thermal toughening process like toughened safety glass. However, the cooling process is slower. This results in smaller stress differences in the glass between the core and the surfaces. The bending strength is between that of float glass and that of toughened safety glass. If broken, cracks appear, which extend radially from the centre of the break to the edges of the pane, similar to the breakage of float glass. In practice, TVG is used almost exclusively for the manufacture of laminated safety glass. Due to the large fragments, VSG made of TVG has a high residual load capacity. Preferred areas of application: TVG is mainly used as laminated safety glass for overhead glazing and for anti-fall glazing.

What is VSG | Laminated safety glass

Description: Laminated safety glass (VSG) is a special form of laminated glass that meets the minimum legal requirements. It consists of at least two panes of glass, usually flat glass panes, and an intermediate layer, usually of tear-resistant polyvinyl butyral (PVB) film. It is rare that clear plastic panes are used, just as it is rare that other intermediate layers are used, for example casting resins. The VSG generally achieves a high level of safety due to the tear-resistant PVB layer and its adhesion effect. In the event of mechanical overload (e.g. impact or shattering), the glass does break, but the pieces adhere to the PVB film. This results in a residual load capacity, with the formation of splinters at the same time reducing the risk of injury. Laminated glass is manufactured under clean room conditions. In the autoclave, the glass and film are fused together under high pressure and heat to form an inseparable unit. The embedded film is usually transparent. Special effects can be achieved with matt or coloured white films. Applications of VSG in ESG (laminated safety glass in toughened safety glass) : Spandrel glazing Applications of VSG in TVG (laminated safety glass in partially toughened glass): Overhead glazing, glass canopies, spandrel glazing, passable glass, car windows (windscreens). Laminated safety glass applications in float glass (laminated safety glass in float glass): Spandrel glazing, operable glass, bullet proof glazing, bullet proof glazing or blast proof glazing.

Can glass panes mounted with glass clamps slip?
This should not happen if high-quality glass clamps are used. If there is still a problem, please contact us. Usually, on closer inspection, small details can be found that have led to the problem. Realigning the discs without making any technical changes is not a solution!

Can rubber inserts from different manufacturers be mixed or exchanged?
Despite almost identical dimensions for some glass clamps, each manufacturer uses different materials with regard to the rubber inserts. Furthermore, the rubber bed depth and the hardness of the rubbers vary considerably. There will therefore be problems with almost all holders sooner or later when using rubber inserts that are not optimally matched to the glass panes.

Can slipping panes simply be secured with thicker rubbers?
If glass panes installed with high-quality glass clamps slip, there is usually a technical problem. Attempts to solve this with thicker rubbers are often unsuccessful. Most of the time, only the beautiful appearance of the glass holders is destroyed by the individual parts opening up. Only by getting to the bottom of the problem is a sensible and long-term solution possible.

Can glass clamps also be installed without a locking pin | locking plate?
Not every glass clamp for which a locking pin or locking plate is possible must also be used with these components. They are only one of many possibilities to secure the pane permanently mechanically against falling. In this context, please also note that glazing at risk of falling must always be mechanically secured. However, the securing can also be done with a bottom chord or a differently selected installation situation.

Can products with the stainless steel effect surface be used outdoors?
Products that are marketed with the designation stainless steel effect are usually made of the material zinc die-cast raw. The stainless steel look of these products is achieved by grinding and galvanic finishing with a matt chrome layer. This is protected with a touch of clear lacquer. In our opinion, these products are therefore not suitable for outdoor use. Due to weathering and the slightest damage, visual defects may occur in the long term.

Can products with the surface colour-coated be used outdoors?
The colour-coated clamp fasteners we offer have a plastic coating. This does not cause any problems outdoors and can be rated the same as completely coated constructions that have been used outdoors for years without any problems.

Can products made of die-cast zinc be used untreated outdoors?
Components a

Can all pipe end plugs be welded?
All our solid plugs have now been converted to the material 1.4301. All cast plugs with and without knurl are also made of this material. The material 1.4301 is easily weldable and therefore this question can now clearly be answered with yes.

Are the handrail supports supplied screwed or welded?
All handrail supports with a 12 mm bracket that we sell are made of 2 components. In the steel version, the round plate is welded to the bracket. In the stainless steel version, the bracket is fastened with a screw. This is fixed in the correct position with screw locking to prevent twisting.

Can the products from the plug-in system range be welded?
All cast components from the round and square push-fit system areas are made of the material 1.4301 and are therefore easily weldable.

Are the steel door hinges supplied in galvanised or hot-dip galvanised version?
The eyebolts and all other components of our steel door hinges that do not have to be welded to the rest of the construction are galvanised. The decisive factor for good corrosion protection is the sufficient thickness of the coating and not the method of galvanisation. However, we also offer some double adjustable steel door hinges with stainless steel components as an alternative.
